Most do not consider their health until a serious illness actually obstructs the flow of their daily chores. Many today consider cough, cold and even cancer are simply part of life brought about by old age and bad genes passed from parents. Is this premise true? But why? Is there a way to avoid getting sick? How?
First consider your present health condition along with your habits. Too much or too less of everything is nothing more than a self-inflicted injury. In today’s technological advancements, man seems unable to move around according to what he was originally designed for. Why primitive man live longer than modern man is the biggest slap on our face, given that this generation has assumed the superiority in knowledge about foods and medicine far advance in human history. Suffice to say that since creation man was not made to suffer illnesses but he is not immune to. And the good news is that there is a way to avoid getting sick.
Here are some few tips to get rid of these diseases that have plagued our present generation. These are simple points that if applied faithfully will bring good benefits not only to your whole being but you will simply be glad you did! Remember a famous adage, “An Ounce of Prevention is Better than a Pound of Cure”?
1) Eat the right kind of Foods. Fast-food chains generally offer a lot of menus rich in unsaturated fats and carcinogenic ingredients that will harm your internal organs. Why waste your money buying expensive burgers and pizza pies when fresh bananas, juicy jackfruits and crunchy apples worth much less but far superior in nutritional contents. Processed, preservative and sugar filled foods and snacks do nothing but weaken your body’s immune system. A weak immune system means weak responses against diseases that will attack your body. Always strive to eat organically-grown vegetables, fruits and meat products. Eat 60% of your fruits and veggies fresh and unprocessed.
Avoid meat raised in sedentary condition and feed in artificial feeds and injected with vaccines. Many studies have shown that meat and dairy products coming from these sources are commonly linked to Obesity, Heart Disease, Hypertension, Diabetes, and almost all types of Cancers. Keep in mind that meat, even if fed on grass from natural pastures, should only be taken in small amounts and should not be a part of your every meal.
If possible, it is more effective to grow a backyard vegetable farm and raise your own farm animals to ensure the foods you eat are natural and poison-free.
2) Exercise regularly. A simple walk in a nearby beach or park can burn unwanted bad cholesterol stored in your arteries for many years. You don’t need to buy expensive exercise equipments if you don’t have the budget, try brisk-walking, jogging and simple calisthenics are equally helpful. As a reminder, consult your doctor before attempting any of the above activity to avoid complications. At best, start with less stressful exercise (e.g. walking or strolling) and you may proceed to brisk-walking… etc., if your physician finds you are fit.
3) Always get the right amount of Sleep. Computers, televisions, the internet, office or school papers, reports and deadlines, are just a few of the many factors that lead to Sleep Deprivation. It is known to be the cause of major road accidents in large metropolitan areas where most night-goers frequent. While length of sleep may vary depending on the individual’s age range, most adults have an 8-hour rest a day as an ideal pattern. Some studies suggest that from 9 P.M. to 11 P.M., your body resumes the process of restoration of the body and brain, facilitating the synthesis of large molecules such as proteins and ribonucleic acids. And from 11 P.M. to 2 A.M. digestion process follows.
4) Start eliminating vices, now. Again an adage referenced earlier seems irrelevant to most in this fast-paced world. Peer pressures, pleasure-seeking, revelries and laxities in life are almost becoming an everyday norm; even the gullible youngsters in our society are easy targets. But to those who still care, believing that your Body is the Temple of God, avoiding harmful habits is the right choice. I need not enumerate these vices here, but same with unhealthy food-eating habit, these are no less than major health hazards that one should eliminate in his own system, Try to make changes NOW! not Later, because Tomorrow might be too late!
It’s a fact that many get disheartened after their first or second attempt to stop Smoking, Heavy Drinking, etc., because they cannot resist the feigned excitement and enjoyment that supposedly go with it. The fallacy of the matter is no more than the painful truth—stressed body organs that can cause illness.
Though it is most advantageous to seek professional advice, I can recommend some practical points to consider. I myself was once a heavy smoker (Chain-Smoker). The reason I smoke is simply because my friends do. As most would consider it normal to be doing this, I thought it will not harm your body significantly even ignoring warnings on cigar pack’s label. But if you are determined to learn and have decided to quit (e.g. smoking, excessive drinking, etc.), try this:
a) Tell your old friends that you cannot continue smoking or better yet select to befriend with those who choose to abstain from these bad habits.
b) Don’t take chances with you. Lessen if not completely avoid situations that tends to tempt you into recurrences of things you’re struggling to evade.
c) Instead of hanging around with friends somewhere, try to keep yourself busy with other things such as reading books, emails and research the internet on how to overcome.
d) Be resolute. Don’t get discouraged, expect failures but keep on trying and trying until you succeed. Remember “Rome was not built in a day”!, as the saying goes.
(On a side note: Remember Wine Drinking is not bad to your health. In fact, many studies conform to the fact that drinking a shot or so (e.g. Red Wine) every after meal helps in the digestion process. But excessive drinking of alcoholic wine will damage your liver. Again, moderation is the key!)
These are the four simple ways to stay healthy and fulfilling life. Realize that much could be said in detail about how to avoid sickness. In any case, it is best to undertake diligent research about your current health problem, know the causes of your illness to prevent recurrences, learn how and what necessary adjustments of your lifestyle should you change. After all, the success of healing largely depends on your determination and faith in God. So don’t lose hope, Seek His Will first because true healing comes only from the True God—creator and possessor of everything.?
